Soil Mechanics Laboratory

Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil engineering, concerned with the engineering properties of earth materials. It includes investigating existing subsurface conditions and materials, assessing risks posed by site conditions, designing earthworks and structure foundations.
The Geotechnical Soil laboratory of Civil Engineering Department, IIT Bombay houses several equipments and apparatus used by Under Graduate students and Post Graduates students for their research purposes. The facilities include testing of a large range of sample sizes for compressibility, shear strength and drainage properties. Determination of properties of geo-grids and geo-textiles are also performed in this laboratory.
