Mahesh Tandon

Mahesh Tandon

Prof Mahesh Tandon is an international expert in the field of Structural Engineering. Structures designed by Prof Tandon and his firm Tandon Consultants Pvt Ltd have been widely acclaimed and have received recognition in India as well as internationally. He was appointed Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technologies at Kanpur and Roorkee by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). He has to his credit a number of major design projects in Prestressed Concrete, Reinforced Concrete and Structural Steel in India, Malaysia, Thailand, Russia and several countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe. These include major bridges, long span roofs, tall buildings and monumental structures. His structures have been described as highly creative, futuristic, aesthetic, environmentally friendly and innovative.

Some of his significant projects include the Viaducts, Bridges, Stations and Underground Constructions of the Metros in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai & Ahmedabad the Bangalore- Electronic City Elevated Expressway, several Flyovers and Interchanges in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Guwahati at important road crossings, and the structures of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, Delhi-Badarpur Expressway and several projects for the Commonwealth Games 2010. Monumental Building projects include the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi and the Khalsa Heritage Memorial Complex at Anandpur Sahib, Punjab.

He is a Fellow of INAE and was the Chairman of the National Information Center for Earthquake Engineering at IIT Kanpur and the past President of Indian Concrete Institute.

Ashwini Bhide

Smt Ashwini Bhide, an IAS officer from Maharashtra cadre is a post -graduate in English Literature from Pune University. She was selected through Civil Services exam for IAS in 1995 with the honor of standing first among women candidates in the country.

She has vast experience in the field of Urban infrastructure sector. During her tenure as Additional Metropolitan Commissioner MMRDA, many infrastructure projects were successfully completed in Mumbai. Some of these projects are Construction and commissioning of 8.2 km long first Monorail of Mumbai, Construction and commissioning of 17 km long Eastern Freeway with 12 km of elevated road, 5 km at grade road and twin tunnels; Elevated Road to International Airport Terminal (T2) Mumbai, 2 major Rail Over Bridges at Dahisar and Milan subway, 8 vital Flyovers including a 2 km long flyover at Lalbaug junction, 36 Skywalks etc. The execution of these projects involved effective leadership and project management as well as meticulous planning on her part for coordination among various stakeholders and rehabilitation of families and religious structures on a large scale.She has also contributed towards resettlement and rehabilitation of more than 10,000 families affected by various MMRDA projects

She has also been responsible for making available RoW for Mumbai Metro1 in time bound manner , planning of Surya Regional Water Supply Project, Mithi River Development, Planning & development of Taloja integrated Solid Waste Management Project on PPP and Planning & development of Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (22 km long sea link) on PPP.

With rich experience in Urban infrastructure development , she now aptly heads Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation executing JICA funded Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Colaba – Bandra – SEEPZ) project.

Nilotpal Kar

Nilotpol Kar, is the Business Director, South Asia, for the Construction Chemicals Division of BASF India Ltd.

A Civil Engineering Graduate, with over 28 years’ experience in the field of cement, concrete and construction chemicals working across Asia, Pacific and Middle East and involved in prime projects.

He has been associated with promotion of construction chemicals in various types of projects – hydro /nuclear /thermal, dam, infrastructure, roads & bridges, residential / commercial - spanning across Asia Pacific and Middle East - High Performance Concrete, Self-Consolidating Concrete, High Strength Concrete, Mass Concrete, Roller Compacted Concrete. He has worked in development of cement technology for blended cements. Apart from that, he shares a high passion and knowledge in all fields of specialized material technolgies – underground construction systems, repairs systems, performance floorings, waterproofing and insulation systems.

He has a number of papers/ publications to date with the most prominent ones on “High Performance Concrete in Hot Weather Countries”, “Speed Dam Technology”, “Low fines Self-Consolidating Concrete”, “Green Enduring Concrete” in various conferences across Asia, Europe and ANZ, including one at RILEM (Paris) in 2013.

In his various capacities – technical, sales, product management, marketing, business management - he has involved with stakeholders in prime projects overseas like the Palm Island, Beirut Tunnel, Burj Khalifa, Doha Pearl (All Middle East), Great Man Made Reservoir project (Libya), World One Tower, North West Rail Link (Australia), Gorgon (Australia), Rehab projects in NZ. He has been instrumental in launching Smart Dynamic Concrete – a self-consolidating concrete technology using special polymers – across Asia Pacific - since 2008, which has remarkable success across emerging and mature markets.

With the experience acquired over different countries, Nilotpol would be able to disseminate some experiences in providing smart, sustainable solutions helping with creation through chemistry increasing floor spaces, productivity, speed of construction and promotion of safety.

Working in a leadership role within his organisation, and also in his capacity as Vice President of the CCMA (Construction Chemicals Manufacturers Association), Nilotpol now actively leads many initiatives across South Asia through his dedicated team in South Asia.
