Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of the Hydro-Remote Sensing Applications (H-RSA) group of the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay. Our website provides an overview of our present and past team members, course offerings, current research activities, as well as our publications. Our content gets continuously renewed and expanded. We are glad that you visit our website and hope you will find the information you are looking for.

About Us

We the Hydro-Remote Sensing Applications (H-RSA) Group led by Dr. RAAJ Ramsankaran at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay mainly focus on the use of satellite, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and aerial remote sensing measurements to study various aspects of water cycle.

Currently, in addition to the above research areas related to water, just out of curiosity we are also working in Urban Remote Sensing to understand the landscape changes and its impact on Quality of Life in Metropolis like Mumbai in collaboration with faculty members from Centre for Urban Science and Engineering (C-USE), IIT Bombay.

This group is composed of Postdoctoral researchers, Ph.D. students, Post graduate students, and few highly motivated undergraduates.

Vision

To be one of the leading research groups in Hydro Remote Sensing and its Applications.

The research in our group covers broad areas of surface hydrology including Snow and Glacier responses and hydrometeorology. Our research utilizes advanced, computer-driven hydrologic/hydrodynamic/glacier dynamic models in conjunction with ground and satellite-based measurements. The overarching goal of these research efforts is to improve scientific understanding of the quantity, movement, and timing of freshwater (surface water) so that this vital resource may be better managed and preserved.

The current research activities in our group fall under wide range of areas like Rainfall Sensing, Hydro-Data Assimilation, Snow and Glaciers Modelling, Land and Water Management, Ocean & Coastal Sensing which are just unified by water and remote sensing.
