Dr. Banerjee is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). Prior to joining IITB in 2008, he spent three years as an assistant professor at the Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology, Saint Louis University, USA .

Dr. Banerjee earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Dec. 2003. He pursued his Masters thesis at the Institute for Statics and Dynamics of Aerospace Structures (ISD), University of Stuttgart, Germany under prestigious DAAD scholarship program. Prior to joining Saint Louis University, he was a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at UCLA.

Dr. Banerjee's research is in the general area of structural and solid mechanics with specialization in theory of ultrasonic wave propagation in solids, nondestructive quality evaluation of metals and composites, structural health monitoring, and mechanics and physics of defects from nano-to-macro scale.
