Traffic Simulation

  1. Street Simulation Web-based simulation modules to improve transportation engineering course developed in University of Minnesota by Prof David Levinson.
  2. FreeSim FreeSim allows for multiple freeway systems to be easily represented and loaded into the simulator as a graph data structure with edge weights determined by the current speeds. Traffic and graph algorithms can be created and executed for the entire network or for individual vehicles or nodes. It uses Longitudinal Model: IDM and Lane Change Model MOBIL.
  3. MITSIMLab Open source (Linux) Microscopic Traffic Simulator.
  4. SUMO Simulation of Urban MObility (SUMO) is an open source, highly portable, microscopic road traffic simulation package designed to handle large road networks.
  5. Trafix is an animated, open source road traffic simulator which simulates cars, trucks and buses. The vehicles are animated and display using X windows. The code is written in C++. Input road files are created graphically using Xfig.
  6. PAMINA The simulation suite consists of three major components: Planner, Microsimulator PAMINA, Route Converter
  7. VISSIM LITE This project has produced Java code that provides a way to model a road network and a graphical simulation for road traffic on the user-defined network. However, this software is only an academic exercise and is not a useful application in the real world

FreeSimTraffic and graph algorithms can be created and executed for the entire network or for individual vehicles or nodes, and the traffic data used by the simulator can be user-generated or be converted from real-time data gathered by a transportation organization. The vehicles in FreeSim can communicate with the system monitoring the traffic on the freeways, which makes FreeSim ideal for Intelligent Transportation System simulation.
