Dr. Tom V. Mathew, is a professor of Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai. His area of specialization is in Transportation Systems Engineering. Currently, he is also the Head of the Department of Civil engineering. Prof. Mathew completed Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, Master of Technology and Doctorate in Transportation engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He joined as faculty at IIT Bombay in 2001. He is actively involved in teaching, academic research and development sponsored by the government and industry. His current research interests include traffic flow modelling and simulation, traffic signal control systems, transportation network design, intelligent transportation systems, and road safety. He has about 50 international journal publications and has about 70 international conferences. He has guided 25 doctoral students and 45 masters’ students. He completed about 20 government funded sponsored research projects and about 30 industry funded projects in this area. He also held several administrative positions including the Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Support, JEE Chairman, and Placement in charge at IIT Bombay; and Chairman Engineering works Department at IIT Palakkad. He is the Chairman of the NATPAC’s Research Council, member of the Finance Committee at IIT Palakkad, member of the Building Works Committee at IIIT Kottayam.
