Institute Post-Doctoral Fellows

Dr. Banoth Gopalakrishna
(February 2024 to Till Date)

I am Dr. Banoth Gopalakrishna, currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay. During my postdoctoral research with the mentorship of Prof. Prakash Nanthagopalan at IIT Bombay, I have contributed to cutting-edge research on incorporating sugarcane bagasse ash as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM). My work has explored optimizing the pozzolanic properties of these materials for applications in 3D printing and low-carbon construction.

I earned my PhD in Civil Engineering with a specialization in sustainable construction materials. My doctoral research focused on the development and characterization of eco-friendly concrete, particularly in the use of recycled aggregate-based geopolymer concrete. I explored innovative methods to incorporate industrial waste by-products, such as fly ash, GGBS and Red mud, to reduce the environmental impact of traditional concrete production. With the guidance of Prof. Dinakar Pasla, I conducted extensive experimental and analytical studies to optimize the performance of these materials in terms of durability, mechanical strength, and sustainability. My research is aimed to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the construction industry by developing low-carbon alternatives to conventional cement-based materials. This work culminated in several publications in leading international journals and has potential applications in large-scale infrastructure projects focused on sustainability.

My academic journey, which includes a PhD in Civil Engineering and various collaborations with industry partners, has equipped me with a strong foundation in both theoretical research and practical applications of sustainable materials in construction.

I am passionate about driving the construction industry toward more sustainable practices through innovative materials and eco-friendly solutions.
