Project 5 - R Balaji

    Objectives :

  • To develop finite-element based numerical model for the assessment of hydrodynamics of Thane creek
  • To validate the estimated hydrodynamics with field measurements (BARC to supply field data)
  • To estimate the suspended sediment siltation rate in the vicinity of BARC coast
  • To predict the tidal hydrodynamics and siltation characteristics for the future with projected sea-level rise conditions.

    Deliverables :

  • Using the projected values of SLR for next 10, 25 and 50years, the projected tidal hydrodynamics for the Thane creek will be estimated.
  • The projected fate of suspended sediments for the future scenarios will also be estimated.
  • The results of existing conditions and the projected future will be compared to address the effect of SLR and also to identify zones of submergence and sediment erosion
  • Preparation of final report and papers to journals/conferences.
  • At the end of the project tenure of 3 years, a comprehensive report detailing the whole project processes will be submitted along training to the BARC users of the numerical model.
