SOME INVESTIGATIONS ON SOIL CONTAMINANT INTERACTION

The present work deals with simulation of soil-contaminant interaction, which is a thermodynamic process and governs the fate and transport of contaminant(s) in the soil mass. To achieve this, calorimetric studies were carried out on various cements, admixtures and soils, by modifying the standard "Heat of Hydration" test setup. Attempts have also been made to study the heat evolved ("Heat of wetting") during this interaction and to identify influence of various material characteristics such as such specific gravity, specific surface area and the calcium oxide content present in it.
