Centrifuge Modeling of Contaminant Transport in silty soils

The topic of this study is the contaminant transport through soil mass and the different mechanisms involved in such a transport. The aim of the present study is to create a soil where both advective and diffusive transport take place and then to model this phenomenon with a small geotechnical centrifuge. So, we have first studied the properties of different soils in order to create an appropriate soil. Then we have defined 4 samples with different saturation and dry density , to be model in centrifuge. A conductivity meter has been used to convert voltage in Cl- concentration in order to measure the degree of pollution in the soil mass. These experimental results were compared with the one found with the Finite Element Method, using GEOSLOPE software.
