Dr. Paul Schonfeld, is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Maryland, where he served for 19 years as Director of its Transportation Engineering Program. He has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He has experience in analyzing various transportation systems, including road networks and traffic management systems, public transportation systems, freight logistics, inland waterways and airports. He has over 500 publications, including 170 accepted for peer-reviewed journals. He has served as Editor of the Journal of Advanced Transportation and of ASCE’s Journal of Transportation Engineering. He is a Fellow of ASCE and ITE. He received ASCE’s 2018 James Laurie Prize for career achievements in transportation engineering.

At the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), he leads research and capacity development programs on transport policy its spillover effects on the economy and impacts on quality of life. He is co-chair of the special interest group on high-speed rail in the World Conference on Transport Society (WCTRS). At the University of Tokyo, he teaches and conducts research on public policies and institutional mechanisms that attract private finance and philanthropy to build quality public infrastructure in Asia.

Education: He obtained his Dr. Eng. from the University of Tokyo where his thesis supervisor was Professor Hideo Nakamura, President emeritus of Tokyo City University; M. Eng. from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand; and B. Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras. He is a fellow at the faculty of engineering of the University of Tokyo.

Work Experience:

Over 20 years as a research director and principal investigator for AECOM (UK), Iswandaru has been providing technical support and training, and research and development in highway, motorsport, airport pavement and bridge surfacing materials in the UK and overseas. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institute of Asphalt Technology, and Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. His works include provision of mix design, laboratory and site assessments, technical specification, failure investigation, recycling options and remedial solutions. In addition to these activities, he has been involved in managing collaborative research programs with the UK industries.

Mr. P.R.K. Murthy is the Director of Metro Projects Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Prior to joining MMRDA he worked as assistant traffic engineer with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). His expertise is in planning and implementation of transportation infrastructure projects like Metros, and transportation engineering.
