EDUCATION

Ph.D. (Ocean Engineering), Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. (2010)

Thesis title: Simulation of multi-fluid systems (MFS) using interface tracking techniques

Supervisors: Prof. K. Murali and Prof. V. Sundar

Summary of Ph.D. Research: My Ph.D. research contribution is in there major areas. First of all, development of an Unstructured Explicit Finite Element Model (UEFEM) for shallow water equation to simulate coupled tide and tsunami. This model used finite element technique for spatial integration and finite difference approach for time integration leading to a large saving in computational time, which is major factor in global tsunami simulations. Secondly, carried out grid sensitivity study to obtain the optimum grid size for near shore discretization of the computational domains for long wave hydrodynamic study that accurately captures the nearshore tsunami height and arrival time. And finally, investigated the effect of tide and tidal amphidromes in particular on the characteristics of tsunami run-up height and arrival time

M.S. (Ocean Engineering), Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India (2006)

Thesis title: Simulation of multi-fluid systems (MFS) using interface tracking techniques

Supervisor: Prof. K. Murali

Summary of M.S. Research:

My Master’s research contribution is in three major areas. First of all, development of a front tracking algorithm for simulation of highly stratified multi-phase flow problems. Secondly, application of the technique to simulate estuarine flow with three-phase (saline water-fresh water-air) stratification. Finally, development of a semi-empirical model for estimation of the salt-water wedge displacement in a bar blocked estuary
