Research Areas :
Dr. Basarkar carries a valuable 16 years of academic and 21 years of industry experience involving heavy foundation and geotechnologies.
He currently teaches two courses CE677 and CE755 at PG level involving Design and Construction of Piles and Deep Excavation Support Systems respectively. His intensive industry experience has assisted students in gaining real life design and analytical skills and provided them added advantage during job interviews and in identification of potential research areas.
An array of his infrastructural geotechnical experiences includes QAQC, Technical services; Geotechnical design deliveries and management; Deep & shallow foundations; Proposals and execution of Ground Improvement & deep excavation support schemes; Slope stability measures, repairs and rehabilitation of structures in distress.
He has spearheaded introduction of CFA piling technology in India. He is member of ISSMGE and Fellow of several professional organization like the Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Geotechnical Society and serves as Editorial Board member of DFI Journal (USA).
Research Areas :
Hydrology, Watershed modeling, Impact assessment of land use change and climate change on water resources, Modeling evaluation of agricultural and urban BMPs for sediment and nutrient control, etc.

Research Areas :
Serves as the US Ambassador's Distinguished Scholar to Ethiopia before the COVID-19 break. He is a former Duke Energy Distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science, and Director of the Global Institute of Energy and Environmental Systems of the North Carolina Charlotte, USA. He has authored/co-authored more than 272 research articles, book chapters, Federal design manuals and the textbook: "Geo-environmental Engineering: Principles and applications";, published by Marcel Dekker (ISBN: 0-8247-0045-7). He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Energy Engineering of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and associate editor/editorial board member of 33 refereed international journals and contributing editor of three books, including the United Nations Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (Environmental Monitoring Section)
